RMB is proud to be the title sponsor of Ultra-Trail Cape Town (UTCT) – South Africa’s premier trail running event. Since its inception in 2014, UTCT has become the continent’s biggest trail running event – attracting some of the world’s best trail athletes.
Trail running is all about technical skill, endurance and navigating changing environments. It requires a physical and mental ability to go beyond what you thought you could achieve. At RMB we believe that solving difficult challenges requires a similar mindset – being able to go the extra mile to find the right solution. As trail runners have an inherent appreciation for the trail and the beauty of the surroundings, RMB UTCT offers local and international runners the chance to immerse themselves in the pristine natural environment of the Cape, while raising awareness and protecting this natural wonder. While we are growing and developing the sport of trail running, we are also supporting Table Mountain and SANParks Honorary Rangers conservation programmes. This is to ensure that they remain accessible and available for runners, hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and adventure lovers, to enjoy and appreciate all year round.
Unlocking trail running talent with LIV2Run
As part of our partnership with RMB UTCT, we are committed to unlocking talent by helping to grow and develop the trail running community. In 2022, together with the LIV2Run Foundation, we supported several athletes’ participation in RMB UTCT. Sinovuyo Ngcobo is one such a promising athlete. We kicked off his 2023 journey to RMB UTCT with an opportunity of a lifetime to attend a training camp in Kenya in April. RMB, together with the FirstRand Foundation is giving LIV2Run and development runners the opportunity to realise their full potential.
Local support, global reach
RMB UTCT is a unique trail running event with local and global appeal – attracting over 1 500 runners every year runners every year. Unlike typical trail races which are confined to remote wilderness areas, RMB UTCT offers the best of both, as the National Park is within close proximity to the city of CapeTown. The addition of the flagship 100 miler in 2022 to the RMB UTCT race (which includes the crossing of the Cape Peninsula to the remote southern mountains, the trails surrounding Silvermine to Kalk Bay, Kommetjie and Simonstown), makes this event one of the premier trail running events in Africa.
RMB UTCT has the potential to attract much needed foreign investment in our country as an eco and sports tourist destination. We are proud to enable an event that is well-placed on the international trail running calendar, while promoting Cape Town as a perfect running and investment destination.
