Gaborone, 06 November 2019 – RMB Botswana has been named one of the sponsors of the 23rd annual Africa Securities Exchanges Association Conference 2019, to be hosted by the Botswana Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) on 25-26 November 2019 in Kasane, Botswana.

The announcement was made at the BSE’s opening bell ceremony and press briefing on 5 November 2019 and was attended by experts in the capital markets ecosystem, financial institutions, members of the media and the public.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Director of RMB Botswana Harriet Mlalazi said: “This year’s conference theme, ‘Building Resilient African Capital Markets’, closely aligns to our ethos as a Pan African corporate and investment bank. This particular theme could not have come at a better time, given the challenges faced by both the industry and our continent. African capital markets are having to deal with issues around corporate governance, the weakness of brokerage companies, low liquidity, restricted product offerings and limited innovation.”

“As stakeholders, we need to collaborate around crafting innovative but practical solutions that address some of these concerns,” she added.

RMB has a long-standing partnership with the BSE and other African stock exchanges and has been at the forefront of African economic growth through its involvement in complex business journeys across sub-Saharan Africa and in Botswana equity capital markets.

“Our deals include the accelerated placing of New Africa Properties shares, listing of FNB Bond issuance, the inward listing of Letshego Holdings bonds on the JSE and the dual listing of Wilderness Safaris. RMB has also been involved with three African exchanges that demutualised – the BSE, the JSE and the Nigerian Stock Exchange,” said Mlalazi.

RMB is deeply invested in growing the African continent and has launched its latest edition of Where to Invest in Africa, a report showcasing investment opportunities across Africa.

RMB continues to demonstrate its passion for contributing to the development of capital markets in Botswana and beyond.
