He was only ten (and the youngest participant) when he was awarded a silver medal at the Expo for Young Scientists for his automated delivering robot. He then started his own computer company at the mere age of 13. It was clear that Jonathan Ledgerwood was destined to become an engineer and an entrepreneur one day. His dream of growing his entrepreneurial and finance skills eventually led him to join the RMB Class Of Programme.
Jonathan enrolled at the University of Cape Town where he completed a B.Sc and subsequent M.Sc in Chemical Engineering. On graduating he worked for Chevron, Anglo American and Exxaro.
His interests in Africa and passion for commodities then saw him move to the Congo where he led the development of a Greenfields iron ore project. He eventually moved back to South Africa to head a technical marketing position with the same company. He realised that to play a bigger role in the resource space he would have to understand the world of finance and so he became one of the candidates of the RMB Class Of 2014. While on the Programme he gained invaluable experience in the bank’s Structured Finance business with a specific focus on the financing of oil and gas, mining, metals and mines across Africa.
Since he rolled off the Programme in 2016 he relocated to the UK to join the Consumer, Healthcare, Retail and Real Estate teams at Goldman Sachs in London. It was during this time that he also completed his MBA from the London Business School. Today he is the Vice President of Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking.
