Biography

Appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa in 2015, with a team of 4000+ professionals across 51 countries, handling over 8,2 million time-definite international parcels per annum, and an invited member of the DHL Global Management Board.

Prior to this, Hennie held various MD roles within the DHL group, after heading up Olivetti Lexikon and being part of the pioneering team at MultiChoice to bring digital pay TV to Africa.

Goal-oriented and driven by challenge, usually taking an innovative approach to problem-solving, as illustrated by Mobile Money (transforming entities into cashless entities across Africa) and DHL Africa e-shop (creating accessibility to international brands in Africa).

A firm belief that sustainable results can only be achieved through people, as acknowledged by Top Employer Institute recently awarding DHL Express SSA Top Employer on the African Continent 2022, with 22 African countries receiving certification, earning DHL Express SSA the most certified organisation on the continent.

Known for his passion for the African continent, Hennie was an active participant in the World Economic Forum 2019 Africa, winner of the Accenture Rising Star Award 2020, and an international panellist on Africa Go Trade Summit 2022.

The next decade will bring more global trade challenges and a mix of protectionism versus open-economy ideology. Africa will rise on the global agenda as the last real growth frontier, driven by BREXIT and economic trade wars. Digitalisation will continue to evolve and open new opportunities.

Personal interest includes cycling and running, as he believes a healthy body houses a healthy mind. He is a family man and an advocate of embedding home / work balance culture at work.

Deutsche Post DHL is the world's largest logistics company, operating in over 220 countries and territories worldwide. The company delivers over 1.3 billion parcels per year.
