At RMB we acknowledge the opportunities that Africa presents. It’s why we celebrate Africa Day and the formation of the African Union. We are committed to truly African solutions that contribute to the progress of our continent – standing together as one voice, every day. When it was founded in 1963, Africa Day’s purpose was “to mark each year of the onward progress of the liberation movement, and to symbolise the determination of the people of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation”. We remember the sacrifices those who came before us made, to ensure our freedom. We remain committed to fighting for the rights of those who are not yet free. We celebrate the fact that there is nowhere like Africa. We celebrate our home.

Africa Day celebrates many facets of being African: being free, being proud and being deeply rooted in the soil of the/this continent. Driven by a uniquely soulful and essentially African rhythm, our people mark occasions in our own way – in song.

This year, the Mzansi Youth Choir and the iconic Vusi Mahlasela join forces to celebrate the 56th Africa Day, with a song that embodies what it means to be African – Mahlasela’s ... ‘Say Africa’.

I may be walking through the streets of a city called London
But the dust on my boots and the rhythm of my feet and my heartbeat Say Africa
I may be walking in the streets of a city called Amsterdam
But the dust on my boots and the rhythm of my feet and my heartbeat
Say Africa, Say Africa, Say Africa… Africa!

Fusing the legacy style of ‘isicathamiya’ and the spiritual undertones of ‘clap & tap’ to bring a freshly celebratory appeal to the refrain, the Mzansi Youth Choir are joined by Mahlasela himself in this one-off performance of ‘Say Africa’. Ambassadors for South Africa – and Africa at large - the Mzansi Youth Choir has previously performed the song many times, from the streets of Soweto to London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of their meteoric rise to global prominence.

Happy Africa Day to all who are proudly African at heart, no matter where in the world our dusty boots take us.
