RMB Starlight Classics to showcase exceptional talent in Johannesburg.
The highly anticipated RMB Starlight Classics 2023 is set to illuminate the stage yet again at the Country Club Johannesburg in Auckland Park.
Celebrating 25 years, this AfroSymphonic extravaganza promises an extraordinary fusion of classical, opera, pop, and afro-soul performances, featuring a 55-piece orchestra. Guests will be treated to unique musical collaborations while enjoying a picnic under the glorious Highveld stars.
RMB Starlight Classics has continually evolved over the past two-and-a-half decades, showcasing established local and international luminaries and importantly nurturing and supporting young talent destined for stardom. RMB’s Talent Unlocked initiative provides these budding artists with unparalleled experiences and learning opportunities, embodying RMB's commitment to growing the creative economy and contributing to a better world.
The dynamic programme, directed by Darren Hayward and musically directed by James Bassingthwaighte, boasts an impressive line-up, including performances by the award-winning South African choir Quava Vocal Group; powerful pop sensation Tarryn Lamb; mesmerising acapella group The Soil; and South African musical icon Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse. Soulful pop artist Jethro Tait and the Phoenix Co. Orchestra will also delight the audience under the baton of legendary Maestro Richard Cock, who once again hosts the show. Coming home for this RMB Starlight Classics are the internationally acclaimed tenor Sunnyboy Dladla, and the 2021 Cardiff Song Prize winner soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha.
"RMB Starlight Classics celebrates rich musical diversity while unlocking boundless, and unique, local talent,” says RMB’s Carolynne Waterhouse. “Through this AfroSymphonic showcase we nurture creativity, optimism, and the transformative power of possibility that the arts ignite.”
