Somewhere over the rainbow art exhibition shows RMB’s heart

At RMB, inclusion means appreciating the unique contribution that each person brings and ensuring that place is created where everyone feels they belong, are heard and can make a positive impact.

Says Inclusion, Diversity and Transformation Lead at RMB, Dharshni Padayachee: “We know that we are stronger together, and that the values expressed by #TheSumOfUs, are what help to make RMB the great organisation that it is.”

RMB has a unique understanding of the value of the visual arts, both as an integral part of the character of the business, and as a tool for expressing the organisation’s creativity and innovation. The creative economy is the lifeblood of many people in South Africa, and RMB is proud to support it by deliberately showcasing, celebrating and rewarding initiatives across the arts.

RMB is excited to launch an inspirational exhibition that focuses on the legacy, challenges and triumphs of the LGBTQIA+ community. The theme - “Somewhere over the rainbow, a celebration of hopes and dreams” - is in recognition of SA Pride and the artists who support the LGBTQIA+ community.

The intention is to not only challenge the invisibility of queer identity by bringing important LGBTQIA+ stories and experiences to the fore, but to emphasise RMB’s commitment to creating inclusive and safe spaces for all their communities to flourish.

Says Padayachee: “At RMB we are striving to make all RMBers, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, race or social status, feel supported and engaged. We therefore continuously invest in creating a safe space and recognition for all.”

The exhibition has been carefully curated by Teresa Lizamore to feature 20 artists that are allies or part of the LGBTQIA+ community.  Employees and selected external recognised buyers will be able to purchase the art from this dynamic exhibition, which features different mediums. This is particularly important given that the artistic community have been severely affected by the ongoing pandemic. Members of the public visiting the Merchant Place campus are also welcome to pop in and support the artists.
