RMB has long supported the Creative Economy, helping to uncover diverse African talent and drive social transformation across the visual arts, dance, music and theatre.

However, the COVID-19 crisis has, with the closing of theatres, galleries, studios, entertainment and other venues, affected many artists’ livelihoods. RMB is doing more than just maintaining its social investment contributions to selected beneficiary organisations in this important sector, we’re upping our support.

RMB has contributed R75,000 to the Business and Arts South Africa extended Supporting Grants Programme for South African creatives infected or affected by COVID-19. We are also contributing R82,000 to the JHB Festival Orchestra and Mzanzi Youth Choir from our Starlight Classic VIP packages sold to companies. RMB Starlight Classic Concerts, held nationally, showcase performers from diverse backgrounds collaborating to create musical magic.

The Lockdown Collection

This initiative, launched to support local artists impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown, auctions works by South African artists. RMB was thrilled to be able to secure an artwork by Bambo Sibiya entitled “Wait in Anticipation to See the Future” for R130,000. Of the sale proceeds, 60% goes to Vulnerable Artists Fund formed through this initiative, and the remaining 40% goes to the Solidarity Fund and the artist.

RMB shines a light on solutions for a courageous nation

RMB’s home HQ in Sandton is shining brightly with the colours of national unity in a gesture of solidarity and solutionist thinking. For a few nights a week, between 19:00 and 20:00, the building lights up on two sides in the colours of the South African flag, carrying the message: “Solutions need us all.” The illumination of our building celebrates resilience and courage in a time when South Africans are doing extraordinary to ensure the health, safety and best service of fellow citizens.
