BIOGRAPHY
David has more than 20 years of experience working as a sell-side bank economist and senior policymaker, analysing macro developments to assess their implication on the economic outlook, financial markets, and to influence policy choices. Before joining RMB, David spent 11 years with HSBC South Africa as the head of its economics research on South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. During this time, he was the number one ranked analyst globally for Emerging EMEA Economics in the 2024 II / Extel Survey, top-ranked for South Africa research, and a past winner of the Reuters' South Africa Economist of the Year.
Prior to his role as a sell-side economist, David worked as a senior policymaker, providing in-depth economic analysis and advice to support policy development and implementation, culminating in his role as Head of Macroeconomic Policy and Analysis at South Africa's National Treasury. He has also worked as a Research Fellow for the South African Reserve Bank and began his career as a government economist in the UK civil service. David holds an MSc degree in Economics from the University of Southampton and a BSc degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham.
