Biography

Emrie Brown is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). RMB is a leading African corporate and investment bank and part of FirstRand Bank Limited.  

Emrie joined RMB in 2001 and has held various senior leadership roles, including Head of Leveraged Finance, Head of the Investment Banking Division and Head of the Banking Division, before being appointed CEO in 2022 as the first woman to lead the bank.   

She has led RMB through a period of strong growth and broader client and geographic diversification, reinforcing the strength and resilience of the franchise. Under her leadership, RMB has earned international recognition for innovation and excellence across multiple areas of the business.    

Her leadership is defined by disciplined execution, strategic clarity and fostering a high performing culture that underpins sustainable performance. Emrie is an advocate for diversity in thinking and advancing female leadership in financial services and has been recognised with the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles Award for Leadership Commitment in South Africa.
