BIOGRAPHY
Minister Barbara Creecy was appointed as Minister of Transport in the new Government of National Unity on 3 July 2024. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment of the Republic of South Africa between 2019 and 2024. In November 2019, she was elected as the President of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN).
Minister Creecy holds an Honours Degree in Political Science from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of London.
As one of the leaders of the African National Congress, Minister Creecy currently serves as a member of the National Executive Committee and National Working Committee. She was one of the longest serving members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. She joined the legislature in 1994, and until 2004, served in different portfolios, including as Deputy Chief Whip and Chairperson of the Social Development and Education Committees.
