Cassim Motala’s entry into the world of Corporate and Investment banking did not start the conventional way.

In fact, his first job was at an Internet gaming start-up, where he spent eight years as part of a team developing one of the largest risk and payment solution providers worldwide. He then bought into a wheel and tyre distribution business, before joining RMB. Ten years later, Cassim is the Co-Head of RMB Ventures – the Private Equity business within RMB.

Cassim holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town (UCT). He spent a year on the RMB Class Of Programme before joining the private equity team as a Transactor. During this time Cassim worked on numerous transactions – notably investments into the Studio 88 Group, WACO International, Multiknit, Vox Telecom, Kagiso Strategic Investments, Mine Workers Capital Partners and RMB Ventures in East Africa.

As the Co-Head of RMB Ventures, Cassim is primarily responsible for RMB Ventures’ Private Equity business. He also serves on the RMB Management Board and the RMB Investment Committee as well as sitting on the Boards of various investee companies.

Cassim is passionate about promoting Mathematics and English literacy Programmes in rural areas. This philosophy extends to his views that the private equity business model should revolve around the collective and not the individual.

In his spare time Cassim enjoys playing and watching soccer, spending time in the bush and mountains and travelling with his family.
