Carel Vosloo is the quintessential RMB dealmaker, having spent the greatest part of his career at Rand Merchant Bank. Since joining the Bank in 2004, Carel has moved up the ranks from being a Transactor in Corporate Finance, to Co-Head of the Corporate Finance business, and since 2014, as Co-Head of the Investment Banking Division (IBD). Carel these days focuses on strategic client opportunities for the bank in his new role as Executive Director: Client Strategy.
During his tenure as Co-Head of IBD, the bank has won the ‘Best Investment Bank in Africa’ from the African Banker Awards from 2014 - 2017. IBD has been ranked by its peers as the pre-eminent adviser in all the main Investment Banking categories of the PwC South African Banking Survey. IBD has also been awarded the top M&A Investment Adviser by value in the 2017 DealMakers Awards and Euromony has recognised RMB as Africa’s Best Investment Bank in 2016 and Africa’s Best Bank for Advisory in 2017.
Carel obtained a BAcc Honours degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 1997. He went on to complete his Master’s Degree, MComm (Tax) in 2004 at the University of the Witwatersrand. Carel is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA)(SA) and a CFA Charter holder member.
Carel enjoys business strategy and thrives on trying to simplify seemingly complicated situations. He has developed trusted relationships with a portfolio of clients across a variety of sectors, and he is passionate about growth opportunities in the rest of Africa.
He is married and has two daughters. When he is not chasing the next IBD deal, Carel enjoys cycling, spending time with family and friends and reading. He has completed 18 Cape Town Cycle Tours and two Cape Epic endurance races.
