Nicola Holgate
Nicola Holgate is a contemporary painter and a sculptor. She regards her work as a storytelling device allowing the story to dictate the medium and process. She is currently focused on developing a sculpting technique using paper and found objects, working within the theme of motherhood and the experiences of birth, life and death.
Nicola relocated to South Africa in 2016 after living in Botswana for 16 years. She spent three years in residency at Greatmore Studios in Cape Town in 2018 and August House in Johannesburg CBD in 2019 and 2020. Nicola currently practices from her home studio in Hartbeespoort in the North West Province.
