RMB honoured with multiple accolades at prestigious Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards

  • Regional winner for Sustainable Financing in Emerging Markets in Africa
  • Best Bank for Sustainable Finance in South Africa
  • Regional winner for Green Bonds in Africa
  • Regional winner for Social Bonds in Africa
  • Regional winner for Transition/Sustainability Linked Bonds in Africa

RMB has received top honours in multiple categories at the Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards, including the coveted Best Bank for Sustainable Finance in South Africa, as well as regional awards for Sustainable Financing in Emerging Markets in Africa, Green Bonds in Africa, Social Bonds in Africa, and Transition/Sustainability Linked Bonds in Africa.

As the transition to a green economy continues to gain traction and awareness of climate risks grows, financial institutions are leading the way in support of technological innovations and new solutions. The Sustainable Finance Awards recognise global and regional leadership in funding initiatives designed to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and help build a more inclusive and sustainable future for humanity.

The international industry magazine awards financial institutions that are setting the agenda and breaking new ground in this rapidly growing sector. Presented annually, they reflect the innovative, progressive, and inspirational changes taking place within the global financial sector. Criteria for these awards include detailing hard measures of ESG activity, such as year-on-year growth in sustainable instruments (green bonds as a percent of total bonds), sustainable finance goals and progress made against them, alongside details of environmental and social impact, achievements in and contributions to sustainable finance over the course of the year, and points of competitive differentiation, as well as softer metrics such as goal alignment with leading ESG norms.

Over the course of the year, RMB has concluded several landmark sustainable finance transactions, contributing positive environmental and social outcomes and helping clients to achieve greater alignment with Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, numerous infrastructure and project finance deals have aided in the deployment of renewable energy solutions to help address South Africa’s energy crisis and move toward a sustainable future.

Nigel Beck, Head of Sustainable Finance and ESG at RMB, said: “These awards once again mark a prestigious recognition of our sustainable finance expertise and our strong commitments to supporting our clients in their sustainability journey across a large spectrum of innovative solutions. Being honoured across a diversity of categories demonstrates the significant progress we are making across the African continent, continually partnering with clients to deliver innovative solutions to complex problems in support of the transition to a more climate resilient, lower carbon and sustainable, socially inclusive economy.”
