RMB Leaders in trade in GTR awards 2022

RMB has been awarded The Global Trade Review (GTR) Best Trade Finance Bank in Southern Africa for the fifth consecutive year.

The GTR Leaders in Trade awards celebrate the achievements of the world’s leading trade finance service providers, highlighting excellence in the trade, commodity, supply chain, export finance and fintech markets, based on submissions sent to GTR.

The trade team have been recognised for pulling together a number of structured transactions in challenging markets such as Angola, Mozambique and Zambia. The bank has also purposely driven innovation by producing a state-of-the-art trade finance platform for its clients and has made significant enhancements to its supply chain finance offering.

RMB was also awarded one of the Best Trade Deals of the Year, for client Mascsteel International B.V.  The bank provided the steel merchant with a multi-faceted solution that brings together secured lending and trade risk mitigation in a unified structure. This was done against the backdrop of many banks reducing their exposure to the steel sector.

In the Best Export Credit Agency Deal Award category, RMB won two awards for the Ghana Rail transaction and the Government of Cote D’Ivoire deal supported by UK Export Finance (UKEF). The Ghana deal is the largest-ever investments in the country’s rail infrastructure and is also the first export loan to meet global ESG principles. The project in Cote D’Ivoire, involves the financing of the infrastructure development of six hospitals in the country as well as financing equipment, training and technical support post the hospitals completion.

Said Louis du Plessis, Head of Trade Finance at RMB: “Being honoured at the GTR Leaders in Trade Awards is testament to our ability to innovate and flourish under testing market conditions and ultimately putting our clients front and centre across the region.”
