How to prevent identity theft

  • Never share your personal information on the phone, fax or on social media platforms

  • Verify all requests for personal information

  • Store your personal and financial documentation safely

  • Don't carry unnecessary personal information in your wallet or purse

  • When destroying personal information, either shred or burn it

  • Report a stolen or lost ID or driver's licence immediately

  • Request that sensitive documents be sent via registered or door-to-door mail

  • Pay attention to account cycles so that you can identify when communications intended for you, have not reached you

  • Install firewall and antivirus software protection to prevent a computer virus from sending out personal information from your computer

  • Choose a different PIN for your credit, cheque and debit cards, so that if you lose one, the other cards will still be safe

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Never give your Online Banking username and/or password to anyone

  • Never give your One Time PIN (OTP) to anyone

  • Never share your token with anyone

  • Never click on links in emails claiming to be from your bank (we never send links in our correspondence)

  • Always ensure you use the correct URL address for your bank in your browser

  • Be cautious of company names with web-based email addresses, e.g., junkmail@yahoo.com, @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, @ymail.com.

  • Review your transactions regularly

  • Don't expect to be selected as a winner if you haven't participated in the lottery or any competition

  • When in doubt, notify us

  • Never save your passwords to your browsers
