Claire Manicom is a Johannesburg-based artist attempting to comprehend and interpret the world. After completing Industrial Design at the University of Johannesburg in 2014, she realised it was not her direction into the world. This understanding came during a period of hospitalisation shortly after starting work. It proved a life changing moment, an awakening realising that art was her sanctuary - giving her a place and direction in the world.
Claire works across multiple mediums, including sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Curiosity is at the core of her art. She works intuitively, manipulating objects and materials to find meaning. Through her work she tries to interpret and communicate a ribbon of observations and experiences, moments from thousands of places, all at once cluttered and clear.
