Biography
Our Chief Economist is
Ettienne le Roux. Ettienne graduated with a B.Com, B.Com Honours and M.Com Economics from the North-West University (1991 – 1995). He obtained his degrees cum laude. After lecturing economics at the same university, he followed a career as economist at the National Treasury. While employed by the Treasury Ettienne had the opportunity to further his studies in the US. He later joined First National Bank as economist. In 1998 Ettienne joined Rand Merchant Bank and in June 2009 he was appointed as Chief Economist.

The team and its analysts have won a number of awards in recognition of their research over the past few years.
Head of RMB FICC Research: Theuns de Wet
Theuns joined RMB in 2007 as a Fixed Income Strategist in the FICC Research team. In 2008 he moved to FirstRand's Macro Portfolio Management team where he was responsible for macroeconomic analysis and strategy. He was appointed Head of RMB FICC Research in April 2010.
Before joining the FirstRand Group, he served as an Emerging Markets Analyst and later as a Fixed Income Strategist in the financial sector from 2001 to 2007. He started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Pretoria in the late 1990s.
Theuns received an MCom in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria before completing an MA in Economics at the University of Toronto. He was awarded his PhD in Economics from the University of Pretoria in 2004.
