Corporate Social Investment (CSI)
Our purpose as business is to produce sustainable profits; our role as corporate citizens is to support sound community development initiatives.
The FirstRand Foundation, established in 1998, is the dedicated legal vehicle through which FirstRand and its major associates direct their social giving to meaningful development initiatives. The Foundation gives FirstRand the opportunity to pursue a formal and co-ordinated programme of purposeful and effective CSI. It responds to development needs in an informed and considered way, applying FirstRand's value-driven approach and commitment to excellence, towards community investment.
The RMB Fund, a member of the FirstRand Foundation, is Rand Merchant Bank’s CSI vehicle. 1% of RMB's net profit after tax is directed towards projects focusing on Education (Maths Excellence and Outreach), Arts, Culture and Heritage, and the Environment and Conservation.
Staff Initiatives in the Community
"Rise up and do something”, was Former President Thabo Mbeki’s appeal to all South Africans in February 2002 when he asked us to become a society of volunteers. For many years, staff of the FirstRand Group have participated pro-actively in projects that impact positively on their local communities and stakeholders.
